Wireless Test Set enables Insights into LTE-Advanced Category 6 Chipsets

25 February 2014 – Agilent Technologies introduced the E7515A UXM wireless test set, a highly integrated signaling test set created for functional and RF design validation in the 4G era and beyond. The UXM provides a broad range of capabilities that enable testing of the newest wireless device designs, delivering LTE-Advanced category 6 now and handling increasingly complex test cases in the future.

 “The UXM is a true breakthrough, delivering excellent performance today and providing ample headroom for tomorrow with the industry’s most advanced architecture,” said Joe DePond, general manager of Agilent’s Mobile Broadband Operation. “As a result, R&D teams can thoroughly test the latest LTE-Advanced features now and easily enhance capabilities, performance and test coverage beyond the current 4G requirements.”

UXM for Design and Validation Test

In design validation of LTE and LTE-A chipsets and user equipment, the UXM enables realistic verification of bidirectional category-6 performance with stable throughput at 300-Mbps downlink. Engineers can further wring out new designs with flexible receiver testing and trusted transmitter measurements. They can go deeper in functional testing with the UXM’s wide range of network emulator capabilities, including complex handover scenarios and VoLTE support. The UXM also ensures greater confidence in RF performance with flexible automated testing and industry-proven Agilent X-Series measurement science.

To keep pace with evolving wireless device designs, the UXM’s future-ready architecture is built to handle the next advancements in antenna techniques, component carriers and data rates. With the industry-leading combination of two independent 100-MHz RF transceivers, the UXM enables multiple cells, carrier aggregation, MIMO up to 4x2, and integrated fading. The UXM also provides built-in servers for extensive functional test applications. As device technologies change, the UXM can evolve as well: Its extensible architecture includes upgradable processors, multiple expansion slots, and high-speed interconnects.

Users can get up and running quickly with a versatile touch screen that features a new-yet-familiar interface based on popular Agilent solutions. Test teams can leverage their current libraries of test cases with backward-compatible SCPI commands.

EXM for High-Volume Manufacturing Test

The UXM joins the recently announced E6640A EXM within Agilent’s new generation of industry-leading wireless test sets. In volume manufacturing of cellular and wireless-connectivity devices, the EXM offers ultimate scalability in performance and technology coverage, including LTE-Advanced and 802.11ac with MIMO.

The EXM can be configured with up to four independent transmit/receive channels, each with four RF ports (two full-duplex, two half-duplex). For even greater scalability and port density, the EXM can be customized to connect up to 32 devices for fast-sequenced, non-signaling parallel testing. As requirements change on the production floor, the EXM allows manufacturers to evolve their test stations and keep pace with next-generation devices and standards at the lowest cost of test.
