Tektronix launches MHL Compliance Test Solution

12 August 2011 – Tektronix announced complete support for a Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) compliance test solution that works with Tektronix DPO/DSA/MSO70000 Series Oscilloscopes. The innovative one-box solution enables seamless testing and analysis from the MHL PHY layer to the link layer and back.

Created by the MHL Consortium, the MHL specification is an HD video and digital audio interface for connecting mobile phones and portable devices to HDTVs and other home entertainment products. The Tektronix MHL test solution is based on the MHL Compliance Test Specification (CTS) 1.1 released in June, 2011.

“We are starting to see growing interest in MHL technology around the world,” said Roy Siegel, general manager, Oscilloscopes, Tektronix. “As a Contributor  to the MHL standard we are staying connected to MHL founding members and customers developing early MHL-based devices, which has enabled us to move quickly to provide a complete MHL test solution for transmitter, receiver/adapter, cable and MHL protocols.”

Engineers designing and validating the MHL physical layer and link layer of their devices  are looking to improve efficiency and to perform a wide range of compliance tests quickly and reliably right on their bench. The new Option MHD automates a comprehensive range of MHL compliance tests for improved test efficiency, greater productivity and more reliable results.  The innovative MHL Protocol Analyzer software leverages the same Tektronix real-time scope used for physical layer testing to provide a unique MHL protocol solution, which enables seamless transition between physical and link layer.

“With high-definition video and audio content being increasingly used in mobile devices, the MHL interface offers a simple and compelling way for consumers to experience their mobile devices,” said Judy Chen, Director of Marketing and Business Development for the MHL Consortium. “By providing fully automated testing support for MHL technology, Tektronix is improving the design validation process and the overall time-to-market for MHL-enabled products.”

For MHL receiver and adapter tests, Tektronix provides a simple setup with all impairments added to the MHL signals using direct synthesis-based capabilities of the Tektronix AWG7000 Series Arbitrary Waveform Generators. This simplifies the setup and testing across the range of tests performed. Tektronix also offers an MHL cable test solution based on Time Domain Reflectrometry tests used with theDSA8300 Series Sampling Oscilloscope.

The DPO/DSA/MSO70000 Series Digital Oscilloscopes provide the most accurate real-time performance on the market with 100 GS/s sampling rate performance for lower noise and increased data points on up to 3x oversampled 33 GHz acquisitions.  TheAWG7000 Series Arbitrary Waveform Generators, with up to 24 GS/s and 10 bit vertical resolution, deliver the accuracy, performance and flexibility required for the full range of MHL debug and verification testing.
