Cognex-waferIDSmall, tough and smart Vision System

27 January 2012 - Cognex has introduced a vision system that is small, tough and very smart — the In-Sight 7000. This new vision system series represents a revolution in machine vision featuring powerful vision tools, autofocus and integrated lighting and optics all in a compact, industrial IP67 package that makes the system ideal for more applications than ever before.

“The significance of this new technology cannot be overstated”, said Bhaskar Banerjee, Business Unit Manager, Vision Systems. “Not only does the In-Sight 7000 deliver proven, reliable Cognex vision technology, but because of its small package size and unique new features, companies can deploy vision systems much more easily than they were previously able to.”

Autofocus Breakthrough

The In-Sight 7000 Series is easy to set up and can be used in hard-to-reach spaces.  It features built-in autofocus capability, which makes the In-Sight 7000 the choice for production situations requiring regular part changes.
“Autofocus is the real breakthrough feature of the In-Sight 7000”, said Banerjee. “Users can simply set and save focus values associated with the inspection of specific parts. This allows seamless part change over without any manual adjustment of the smart camera lens.”

Faster Image Capture

The In-Sight 7000 product range provides many model options to choose from, all with a tough metal IP67 package, including the highest acquisition speeds available with In-Sight with a maximum of over 100 image captures per second. The high acquisition rate provides users reliable inspection of products on even the fastest bottling and pharmaceutical production lines.

More Options
The In-Sight 7000 product range includes new entry level models, to provide cost effective solutions for simpler vision applications. The compact In-Sight 7000 features integrated lighting, with five different color options, which gives users total flexibility to support any vision application. If a change to the lighting arises after the vision system has been deployed, the lighting is field replaceable and can easily be changed to meet the new requirements.
The In-Sight 7000 also offers five different lens options so users can further customize the vision system for their specific application. The lenses are also field replaceable and work with the autofocus functionality.  Outside of the five integrated lens options, In-Sight 7000 can be used with standard C-mount lenses.

When the application requires additional specialized lighting, unlike most vision systems, the In-Sight 7000 can power and strobe external lights directly, eliminating the need for external power supplies.

Additional features of the small, tough and very smart In-Sight 7000 include:
Proven In-Sight measurement, location and inspection vision tools and the flexible EasyBuilder environment to make all inspection, defect detection, guidance, alignment and measurement applications easy to set up and deploy.
Cognex Connect, which offers the widest range of built-in communication protocols that interface directly with the vision system.  The compact In-Sight 7000 features built-in Ethernet, RS-232 serial and multiple discrete I/Os.  The system can communicate directly to virtually any PLC or robot controller, or manage multiple smart cameras remotely from a networked PC or HMI, simplifying implementation and reducing costs.
