Signaling Tester supports 98% of eCall Conformance Test Cases

Anritsu MD8475A03 June 2016 – Anritsu Corporation announced that its emergency call (eCall) test environment, using an MD8475A Hardware In the Loop (HIL) simulator, supports 98% of conformance test cases for eCall communications modules. This new release will help secure stable eCall module development and production while improving reliability.

eCall is an EU Commission project designed to secure rapid emergency assistance for victims of automobile accidents. When an accident occurs, the in-vehicle system (IVS) detects the collision, and makes either an automatic or manual emergency call to a Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to provide information about the accident location, current time, number of people in the vehicle, and vehicle model as the Minimum Set of Data (MSD), which is converted to an audio message for sending.

The PSAP operator confirms this information from the IVS and can speak with the vehicle occupants by voice as well as dispatch the necessary emergency services and rescue teams. Installation of the eCall system will be compulsory for all new vehicles sold in the EU from April 2018.

By reaching 98% coverage for eCall conformance test cases, Anritsu’s Signalling Tester MD8475A with built-in eCall test functions will play a key role in the system rollout.

As well as focusing on connected-car test solutions like eCall with the MD8475A, Anritsu is also pushing forward with support for test environments and test cases for similar safety systems, like Russia’s ERA-GLONASS.
