Handheld Thermal Imagers for Predictive Maintenance Applications

Keysight U585031 July 2015 – Keysight Technologies announced the addition of two higher temperature models to its thermal imagers’ portfolio. The U5856A and U5857A can perform temperature measurements up to 650 degrees C and 1200 degrees C respectively. This allows users to detect a wide temperature range for various applications such as petrochemical and steel processing, electrical and mechanical applications, building maintenance and even electronics applications.

With the shift towards predictive maintenance in industrial settings, the U5850 series allows technicians and engineers to efficiently and safely detect abnormalities without shutting down the system. Keysight’s U5850 series TrueIR thermal imagers is among the first in its range of thermal imagers that include four times in-camera fine resolution of 320 x 240 pixels from a 160 x 120 pixel detector. Together with the manual focus feature, allowing users to focus on an object as close as 10 cm, our solution provides clearer, sharper and reveals finer details to detect problems even faster.

The U5850 series offers image logging and temperature trending capabilities to monitor temperature changes overtime for accurate quality checks and diagnostic purposes. With a good 0.07 degree C thermal sensitivity, users can capture, save and analyze temperature changes accurately. For more in-depth analysis and report generation, technicians and engineers can use the TrueIR Analysis and Reporting Tool PC software, which they can download for free from the company website.

“Our customers can have the utmost confidence in our expanded portfolio of thermal imagers with the improved overall usability,” said Ee Huei Sin, vice president, Keysight’s General-Purpose Electronic Measurement Division. “Our ongoing goal is to offer dependable tools that provide a wealth of essential and innovative capabilities, while retaining ease of use.”

The award winning U5855A’s compact, light and ergonomic design allows engineers to comfortably use the thermal imager for longer periods of time, and operate it single-handedly in tight locations. Users can also easily change settings or access frequently used functions such as flash light, laser pointer, auto scaling or simply capture thermal image with quick access buttons. With the easy-to-use customizable color palette, users can now customize the right color palettes for their applications.
