CSA Group opened new Testing Laboratory in Germany

CSA Labor Frankfurt 21 May 2014 - CSA Group, a global provider of standards development, testing, and certification services, opened its new testing laboratory in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), continuing its growth in Europe. The portfolio of the Frankfurt facility includes, among others, temperature testing, IP protection class test, environmental simulation testing, and standard-specific safety testing.

At the new 1000 m² facility, highly experienced engineers and experts will offer testing and certification services to the requirements of a number of national and international standards mainly for active medical products and laboratory devices. Additionally, the new laboratory is specialized in testing electrical safety for industrial components and household appliances.

“In 2011, CSA Group founded its European headquarters in Frankfurt am Main (Germany), the region Hessen ,one of the most dynamic economic regions, and since then has accelerated its growth and will continue with expansions,” said Magali Depras, Chief Operating Officer, CSA Group. “Companies of all sizes, from start-ups to big industrial organizations, thrive in this productive climate. With the expansion of our lab and services, we now offer these companies the local testing that is important to many of our clients.”

In 2013, CSA Group also acquired BSI Deutschland’s testing and certification business for electro-medical devices. In addition, CSA Group Europe received accreditation by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) to ISO/IEC Guide 65, General Requirements for Bodies Operating Product Certification System and Occupational Health and Safety Association (OSHA) as well as the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). This allows CSA Group to offer efficient accredited services to manufacturers looking for access to North American markets.

“With this new laboratory, we are proud to continue our business growth strategy in Europe,” said Ash Sahi, President and CEO, CSA Group. “The demand from German and other European customers for our localized testing and certification services is continuously growing, and with our global expertise, manufacturers gain a competitive advantage through effective access to global markets.”

The new testing laboratory is currently accredited by the Deutsche Akkreditierungsstelle (DAkkS), a member of the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), and the Commission on the Rules for the Approval of Electrical Equipment (IECEE) for testing of medical electrical devices. The portfolio of the Frankfurt facility includes, among others, temperature testing, IP protection class test, environmental simulation testing, and standard-specific safety testing. This includes the assessments of usability (IEC 62366:2007) and safety (IEC 60601-1, 2nd and 3rd edition), the evaluation of software, and the assessments of risk management documentations (ISO 14971) as well as testing and verification under the CB scheme, the world's first international system for mutual acceptance of test reports and certificates dealing with the safety of electrical and electronic components, equipment and products. Scope extensions for household and appliances and further medical device and laboratory standards are scheduled for the second half of 2014.

In Strasskirchen (Germany) CSA Group operates one of the biggest electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing laboratories in Europe. The laboratory offers safety testing as well as environmental testing and certification for automotive, industrial products, radio, IT/AV, and power tools. CSA Group also has branch offices in Italy and The Netherlands, testing facilities for medical and lab equipment devices in Switzerland and Turkey, and employs more than 400 experts across Europe. In addition, CSA Group is planning to expand over the next few years to meet the growing demand of clients in Europe and around the world.
