IZT and ENKOM announce Partnership for Digital Radio

24 August 2011 - IZT, a supplier of high-performance products for capturing, modifying and generating radio signals, and ENKOM AG, a supplier of products and services relating to the planning and implementation of radio network infrastructure, are announcing a partnership in "measurement instrumentation for digital radio".

As a result of this partnership, users are now able to use the portable wideband receiver and RF recorder IZT R3301 and all other receivers of the IZT R3000 line in combination with ENKOM's PerMIT measurement and analysis solution - and thus take advantage of the benefits of an extremely powerful, complete solution for analyzing UKW FM, HD Radio, DRM/DRM+, DAB/DAB+/DMB, ATSC, DVB-H/DVB-T, DVB-T2 and Tetrapol networks.

The IZT R3301, which was launched some time ago, boasts four receiver channels and state-of-the-art RF technology. In terms of phase noise, linearity and dynamic range, it delivers consistent measurement results even if reception is difficult. As a compact, EMI-shielded platform with minimal emitted interference, the IZT R3301 features an integrated GPS receiver, which serves as a highly robust time and location reference. In addition, the device also has an AC/DC power supply with short-term battery backup to ensure uninterrupted power supply. For data-recording purposes the portable device has an integrated server and four swappable hard drives, each providing more than 500GB capacity by default. This corresponds to more than six hours of continuous recording with up to 24 mega-samples per second (MSa/sec), which is sufficient for simultaneous recording of the complete range of FM stations or multiple DAB or DVB-T constellations.

The device is easy to control using the integrated 30-cm high-resolution touch screen. A comprehensive range of accessories, such as linear preamplifiers and the option to synchronise multiple devices for diversity and multi-frequency recording, round off the features of the IZT R3301.

ENKOM's PerMIT measurement and analysis software, which is compatible with the IZT R3301, can record, illustrate and analyse RF and quality parameters such as spectrum, channel impulse response, signal strength, constellation, modulation error ratio (MER), bit error rate (BER) and radiation patterns. ENKOM's measurement and analysis solution therefore combines functionality and digital radio standards in one single system that would otherwise need to be covered by several separate devices. It supports the UKW FM, HD Radio, DRM/DRM+, DAB/DAB+/DMB, ATSC, DVB-H/DVB-T, DVB-T2 and Tetrapol standards. The DVB-T2 analysis is characterised by multiPLP capability.

PerMIT also supports the measurement and analysis of diversity signals in particular.

The PerMIT software package automatically determines band occupancy and presents the measurement results interactively on a map. PerMIT is suited for coverage and mobile measurements. The range of options also includes connectable sensors for measuring position, direction, temperature, altitude, angle, displacement and user-specific results. In addition, measurement runs can be compared on the basis of stored measurement results. Due to the modular and expandable architecture of the software, customer-specific applications can be realised with ease. Of course, it is possible to export all stored measurement data.
