3D THT Bottom-Up AOI System

mek ISO Spector06 November 2025 - Mek (Marantz Electronics) will exhibit at Productronica 2025 in Munich, Hall A2, Stand 500, showcasing its latest developments in Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) and Solder Paste Inspection (SPI) technology. The main highlight of the stand will be the brand new ISO-Spector X1 3D THT Bottom-Up AOI system, which combines advanced 3D optics and projection technology with Mek’s renowned inspection algorithms to measure through-hole solder joint volume and pin height. The system will be demonstrated publicly for the first time at Productronica and is scheduled to join Mek’s product line in January 2026.

Alongside the ISO-Spector X1, Mek will present a wide range of inspection systems. The ISO-Spector M2A 3D SMT AOI, Mek’s flagship inline 3D AOI system, handles high-density and complex SMT assemblies using multi-angle 3D imaging, enabling detailed evaluation of solder joints and component placement. An AI‑based programming tool (EZPro) automates solder‑joint inspection by learning process values and applying hundreds of parameters, reducing dependency on programmer expertise. Offline programming enables setup without halting production. The system supports height/volume measurement of tall components and integrates with MES and traceability systems through MEK’s FIBER platform.

The ISO‑Spector S31 SPI uses dual-projection 3D measurement and adaptive Z-axis focus to measure solder paste volume, height, and offset, accommodating PCB warpage while supporting process verification. Compact Selective 3D PowerSpector desktop AOI systems provide inspection capabilities for prototypes and low-volume production, including taller components, within a smaller footprint. The VeriSpector Inline assembly station AOI can be inserted into any THT PCB assembly line pre- wave or selective solder, offering overhead orthogonal imaging to verify assembled boards.

Visitors to Productronica 2025 will have the opportunity to see these systems in operation and evaluate their performance across SMT and THT assemblies. For companies considering AOI investment, Mek also offers an online AOI ROI Calculator, which allows manufacturers to estimate potential savings and payback by entering production details such as operator costs, PCB volume, and batch sizes. This tool helps businesses determine whether moving from manual inspection to AOI is cost-effective and supports transparent decision-making.
