AC/DC Current Probe for heavy-duty EV Evaluation

HIOKI CT6847A17 April 2026 – Hioki E.E. Corporation launched the AC/DC Current Probe CT6847A, a clamp-on current sensor designed for power measurement applications. Developed to meet the growing demand for large-current measurement in certification testing of electric trucks and other large electric commercial vehicles, the CT6847A expands Hioki’s lineup of high-accuracy current sensing solutions for next-generation mobility and high-power applications.

Certification testing for automobiles requires accurate measurement of vehicle power consumption, and Hioki’s power analyzers and clamp-on current sensors are widely adopted worldwide for their ability to meet stringent testing accuracy requirements.

As battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) continue to expand beyond passenger cars into trucks, construction machinery, and other high-power vehicles, current levels during operation can exceed 1000 A instantaneously. In these applications, current sensors are often installed directly on completed vehicles, creating a need for solutions that can measure larger currents without increasing sensor size or compromising ease of installation.

Hioki has already supported such needs through custom clamp-on current sensors with extended current ranges. In response to the recent trend toward higher-output EVs, Hioki has now officially added a new clamp-on current sensor capable of measuring up to 2000 A DC to its standard product lineup.

The CT6847A is a clamp-on current sensor capable of measuring currents up to 2000 A DC, 1400 A AC. Like Hioki’s existing high-accuracy clamp-on current sensors, it offers a wide operating temperature range and guaranteed measurement accuracy when used in combination with Hioki power analyzers. The sensor also maintains the same form factor as previous models, making it suitable for installation on wiring in the confined spaces inside vehicles.
