Illuminance Meter for 0.00 to 200,000 lux30 July 2014 - Hioki E.E. Corporation launched the Illuminance Meter FT3424. Illuminance meters are used to measure the brightness of light sources. Illuminance is defined by JIS and other standards, and the FT3424 complies with general classes AA and A as set forth in JIS C 1609-1:2006 and Class B devices under DIN 5032-7. The instrument is capable of measuring a broad range of illuminance values, enabling its use in testing targets ranging from emergency and guidance lighting in buildings to lighting in healthcare and medical facilities such as operating rooms (measurement range: 0.00 to 200,000 lux). It can also measure LED lighting, which has been growing in popularity recently. Compared to the previous model, the new FT3424 features a new timer hold function as well as the ability to save up to 99 values in its internal memory. Illuminance is defined as the brightness of light projected onto a flat surface, and illuminance meters measure this property in lux (lx). Illuminance standards are defined for a variety of activities and settings based on the JIS, DIN, and other standards. For example, the Japan Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology's Standards of School Hygiene require that illuminance values measured in multiple locations fall within a range defined by a certain standard, and illuminance meters are used to make those measurements.
