News - Board and System TestMatriX Technologies acquires FocalSpot Inc.22 May 2013 - MatriX Technologies GmbH, a global supplier of high-speed Automated In-line X-Ray inspection systems for industrial applications (AXI and NDT) – announces the acquisition of FocalSpot Inc. (San Diego, CA). The acquisition will allow MatriX Technologies a further expansion into North America following recent establishment of Asian subsidiaries in Singapore and China. Since 2003, FocalSpot has been designing, manufacturing and distributing manual X-Ray inspection equipment for entry-level use at various EMS and other industrial customers in the US and abroad with the current installed base amounting to approx. 400 X-Ray machines worldwide. The acquisition by MatriX will enable FocalSpot to expand its line of cost effective X-Ray inspection products. MatriX plans to make a significant investment to further develop and enhance FocalSpot’s current X-Ray product line with its advanced engineered hardware and software technology platforms. The systematic consolidation of important operating functions such as production provides for additional synergy effects. The acquisition of the California based company will in turn further strengthen MatriX Technologies’ market position in the US and North America by adding FocalSpot’s highly experienced sales and service staff as well as its strong North-American Sales and Support network to the MatriX Group. Following the acquisition, MatriX-FocalSpot’s team will provide direct customer and sales support for MatriX’ AXI/MXI system solutions in the US and other North American countries. In addition, and by leveraging on the Company’s highly-qualified staff with experience in X-Ray technology of more than 15 years in average, the company will further provide service and application support for MatriX’ existing installed AXI (Automated X-Ray In-line) system base currently running in Tier 1 electronics and automotive production assembly facilities in the US, Canada and Mexico - by further ensuring group-wide quality standards. FocalSpot founders, Fred Schlieper and Frank Silva, state: ”We are extremely excited to join the MatriX team.
