Universal partners with Aegis to complement its Leading NPI Software

18 November 2011 - Universal Instruments announces an agreement under which Aegis Software is now Universal’s front-end NPI software provider. This collaboration complements Universal’s industry-leading Dimensions online NPI software with Aegis’ powerful CAD/CAM NPI tools.

Aegis develops software systems to maximize the efficiency and productivity of electronics manufacturers. Aegis solutions are dedicated to improving speed, control and visibility in the production environment. The company delivers these benefits by transforming product, process, materials, and run-time production data into a view of total manufacturing intelligence.

Jason Spera, Aegis Chief Executive Officer, looks forward to an extended relationship with Universal, “This is an affiliation that makes a lot of sense for both companies’ products and customers. Our strengths are very much complementary of one another and we share the same markets for these products.” Spera continues, “The two companies currently have over 100 joint customers across 41 countries.”

The partnership brings a host of new capabilities to help streamline the NPI process for Universal’s customer base, as well as a seamless upgrade path for customers to leverage Aegis’ factory-wide MES systems. “We’re very excited to work with Aegis to enhance our software offering,” comments Universal Vice President of Marketing Debbora Ahlgren. “Aegis is wellestablished at the industry’s forefront in terms of offline NPI tools, winning such awards as Frost and Sullivan’s SMT Company of the Year, EP&P Magazine’s Excellence in Software Award, and Circuits Assembly’s Service Excellence Award for the last ten years.” Ahlgren continues, “By combining their offline NPI tools with our online NPI tools, our customers achieve a feature-rich solution and a distinct competitive advantage.”

The Aegis supplement offers valuable new functionality to bolster Universal’s Dimensions NPI software, including the conversion of CAD, Gerber, ASCii, or centroid data to Universal format in seconds. It also provides the ability to adjust board origins, rotate data, panelize offline, and automatically correct placement rotations. In addition, the new software suite enables Universal’s customers to program across lines from foreign suppliers, generate electronic approvals, and maintain BOM and process revision control.
